Has anyone created a thread-rollup bot for yet?

BookWyrm is a Fediverse alternative to Amazon's GoodReads.

It lets you keep track of what you're reading, see what friends are reading, discover books and write reviews.

You can import your data from GoodReads, LibraryThing etc.

People on Mastodon can follow BookWyrm accounts.

Follow the project at @bookwyrm and find out more at:

Join a BookWyrm server at:

(Please don't join the server though, it is overloaded! 🙏 )

A warning about deactivating your birdsite account

Your Twitter handle can be registered by anyone 30 days after deactivation. If impersonation is in your threat model, lock your account and park it.

Are you a #handmade #artisan ?

Do you have an existing #business or #shop (#etsy or otherwise) with a valid URL?

Would you like to create an account for that business or shop in the #fediverse? was created for that exact purpose.

To apply;
- familiarize yourself with the server terms at
- the username should be your business name
- you must include a URL to your shop or website in the "Why do you want to join?" field

Now that we're learning this lesson that centralized silos are brittle and operate in the interest of the owners not the users...

...please note the move toward centralizing podcasts into apps from Amazon/Audible, Spotify, iHeart, YouTube, TikTok etc.

If you like podcasts, use an RSS-based podcast player. Support the open ecosystem. We can only survive if you clearly see the threat and act supportively.

This lines up with what I see from both the Mastodon logs and the Nginx logs with regards to request duration being <1s

Show thread

The problem appears to be related to the cloud load balancer we have in front of the cluster. It seems requests are being delayed several seconds before actually reaching the cluster.

In-cluster (bypassing the load-balancer but still hitting nginx-ingress)
/ # time curl https://k8s. social/health
OKreal 0m 0.09s
user 0m 0.04s
sys 0m 0.01s

Out of cluster
/ # time curl https://k8s. social/health
OKreal 0m 17.82s
user 0m 0.03s
sys 0m 0.00s

We are aware of performance issues currently effecting and are investigating.

Mastodon seems to be performing as expected but requests are struggling to get through correctly.

Current thinking is an issue with the load balancer in front of the server.

We'll keep you updated as much as we can.

Hey , I'm seeing slowness on but can't seem to pin down what is causing it.

All services are within expected CPU/memory usage, nothing is overtaxed.

All queues are under control, sidekiq idleing.

We've had no influx of new users so nothing obvious causing the slowdown.

I'm at a loss as to what is going on. 😕

Picking up my shiny new car today! ✨🚙😁

Very excited! :gopher_dance:

This looks nice... a new terminal (in Rust) that works more like an IDE.
"Terminal input is weird... [which] comes from the whole historical division of terminal vs. shell, which is based on emulating a physical hardware setup that hasn’t been built since the 80s."
#rustlang #terminal #geek

Is it just me or has the layout of the GitHub issues page got worse on mobile? There used to be profile pictures shown, right? Was there not previously the ability to add reactions to comments on mobile?

New :mastodance: Mastodon bot announcement:

@mastodon_releases will now announce whenever there is a new release available on .

Useful for to keep up with new releases.

Boost this toot if you're planning on sticking around Mastodon whether or not it becomes more popular than the birdsite.

A bit of ...

I've silenced posts from the `` instance to anyone not following those accounts.

The server seems to be dedicated to fake accounts of real brands with not obvious indication that the accounts and posts aren't genuine.

The server isn't blocked, users of this instance can still interact, it's just that posts won't show up in public / local timelines.

For details on all the moderated instances you can see a list at

Upgrade now complete! 🎉

This Mastodon instance is now running `v3.5.5`.

We'll be planning the upgrade to `v4` in the coming days and will provide more details when we have them.
